Engineering Optimization

Optimization is the art of reaching the best solution for a specific problem. The course deals with applying the principles of optimization to various real-life problems. Practical implementation issues are stressed. Knowledge of linear algebra, calculus, and some programming skills are the only requirements for this course.

Students will write various optimization programs during the semester using a programming language of their choice. They will be also exposed to the use of commercial software (MATLAB Optimization Toolbox). Each student will be doing a project (preferably in the area of his/her interest. Many of these projects resulted in the eventual publications of technical papers.
