Project 3

The information below describes an exercise machine (Compound Row). You are to analyze the velocity of this machine. The following are suggested steps:

i.                     Identify the loops.

ii.                   Use the shoulder joint as the input motion. Estimate the time needed to complete the motion. Assume a sinusoidal velocity profile.

iii.                  Derive the velocity equations for the two loops of the machine.

iv.                 Derive the velocity equation for the critical points in the machine such as knee, elbow, etc.

v.                   Write a program, preferably in Mathcad, to simulate the velocity of the machine.

Notes:

·         Use the dimensions that you have reached in Project 1.

·         Use the displacement equations of Project 2 as a basis for your program.

·         If you’re the results of Project 1 or Project 2 are unsatisfactory, please address these issues before proceeding with this project.

Compound Row (http://www.nautilus.com)

The NITRO Compound Row accommodates multiple movement paths with divergent and convergent "Smart Arm" linkage providing user with direct upper torso workout.

  • Rotating "Ergo Grip" handles for natural hand supination & pronation needs during movement
  • Dependent "Smart Arm" movement arms offer varying movement patterns
  • Four-bar linkage "Function Generator" accommodates radical strength curve
  • Long seat pad and large foot platform accommodates various size users
