MEG 320

Spring 2003

Project 1

The information below describes an exercise machine (compound row). The following are suggested steps:

i.         Draw a schematic of the machine and user. You can check the machine at a local gym or supplier. Use the dimensions of an average male.

ii.       Find out the ranges of motion of each joint of the arm.

iii.      Draw the corresponding mechanism.

iv.     Identify the loops, joints, and the number of degrees of freedom.

v.       Define criteria to optimize the mechanism to ensure that the exercise can be completed within a comfortable range of motion of the user.

vi.     Identify the optimal position of the user.

Notes:

1.      Use suitable reference in the library or on the web.

2.      Assume that the leg, torso, and wrist do not move with respect to the machine during exercise.

3.      You may modify the design, while maintaining the concept.

The NITRO Compound Row accommodates multiple movement paths with divergent and convergent "Smart Arm" linkage providing user with direct upper torso workout.

  • Rotating "Ergo Grip" handles for natural hand supination & pronation needs during movement
  • Dependent "Smart Arm" movement arms offer varying movement patterns
  • Four-bar linkage "Function Generator" accommodates radical strength curve
  • Long seat pad and large foot platform accommodates various size users
