Some Types of Rigid Body Motion

• Translation

  • The orientation of every straight line in the body is fixed (no rotation)

• Rotation about a fixed axis

  • One straight line in the body is fixed. All other points in the body travel in circles around this line.

• General plane motion

  • Motion occurs in a single plane but can include translation and rotation.
