Engine Test Laboratory (B-159)

Description
:

This is a laboratory that supports the educational program, particularly through MEG 315 Thermal Engineering Laboratory and MEG 311 Engineering Thermodynamics, as well as the research program. The ability to perform engine evaluations including overall efficiency tests as well as emissions determinations exist. In addition, various component evaluations can take place.

Faculty Point of Contact: Robert Boehm (x4160, boehm@me.unlv.edu)

Function of Facility: 10% research, 90% instruction

Major Equipment, Instrumentation and Capabilities:

  - 4-cylinder overhead cam engine with a water-cooled exchanger to remove heat, a hydraulic absorption dynamometer, emissions measuring equipment, and a full array of instrumentation to determine air and fuel flow rates, temperatures, and pressures. The system is coupled to a personal computer for logging of data.

Major Areas of Expertise:

Engine efficiency and emissions determinations.
