SYLLABUS: MEG 497/498 – Senior Design

Course Objectives: Senior Design Project I (MEG 497): Synthesis course to involve students in the design process. Project proposal and design definition. Corequisites: Senior standing in engineering and ENG 404. 2 credits.

Senior Design Project II (MEG 498): Synthesis course to involve students in the design process. Analysis, design completion, and presentation. Prerequisite: MEG 497. 2 credits.

This design experience should involve elements defined by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). To receive a passing grade in the class, each student will have to demonstrate that the design has met objectives by considering various alternatives and meeting predefined constraints.

Faculty Advisement: Each project should have one ME faculty advisor identified in addition to the instructor. The project team should contact a faculty member and have him/her sign an outline sheet (to be furnished) acknowledging his/her involvement with the project.

Final Reports: A final report is required from each team for both 497 and 498. These reports are to be presented both in written and oral form. The latter is to be accomplished in the final two weeks of the semester at a time and date set by the instructor. The former is due on the last day of the fifteenth week of the semester.

 Other Topics and Field Trips: lectures and field trips may be arranged during the semester.

Policies: Students are expected to attend classes regularly. Ineligible students or students with less than 85% attendance record will be dropped. Students with disabilities may request accommodations through the disability resource center. Students requiring accommodations with regard to religious holidays must request these from the instructor in writing no later than Friday, 1/19/01. Each design team should have two to three members, and must meet weekly. The team leader keeps a weekly log of member's contributions and attendance. The log will be part of the final report, and will be graded.
